Guns were one of the first things ever added to Apocalypse Rising. Also, tools that can be used for defense from firearms were developed, such as kevlar vests and other types of body armor. Attachments for firearms and rails on firearms were developed for easier weapon modification and customization. One of these new cartridges was the percussion cap, which was used in many pistols during this era. Instead of using muzzleloaders, weapons now used cartridges of ammunition, which made reloading weapons much simpler. In the 19th century, new types of ammunition for firearms had been developed, revolutionizing firearms technology forever. The 19th century also brought much change to firearms. More practical firearms were created in the 15th through 18th century, where muzzle-loaded firearms such as the wheellock, musket, and arquebus were used. Some of the places in China that would use these hand cannons included Manchuria. The earliest firearms date back to 13th century China, where hand cannons were used in combat.
